How long is bronze DofE expedition distance?
The expedition must be of the correct duration and meet the minimum hours of planned activity. Bronze: A minimum of 2 days, 1 night; 6 hours planned activity each day. Silver: A minimum of 3 days, 2 nights; 7 hours planned activity each day. Gold: A minimum of 4 days, 3 nights; 8 hours planned activity each day.
How far do you walk on DofE bronze?
16km per day
The distance you walk per day on DofE varies between awards. A standard distance to walk is 16km per day on Bronze, 19km per day on Silver, and 23km per day on Gold. Naturally, some groups will do less than this, and others more.
How long is Duke of Edinburgh expedition?
Our programmes are normally 6 days in duration and include a period of training and route planning. The qualifying expedition takes place over 4 days and 3 nights.
How far do you have to walk for DofE?
Get out and about: Walk at least 30 km to support young people through their DofE. You can cover your 30km in a week or set your own time frame (whatever challenges you!). We suggest that you walk at least 30km but feel free to walk, run, cycle or swim the distance!
Are you allowed to smoke on DofE?
The use of bongs, hookahs, or similar or associated items, for the purpose of smoking flavoured tobacco or other substances, is strictly prohibited. Any participant contravening this rule may be excluded from the remainder of the DofE training or Expedition.
Can you do walking for DofE physical?
What could I do for my Physical section? There are several activities that could be considered which while physical, may not be strenuous. For example, yoga, Alexander technique, T’ai Chi, archery, bowling, walking and Pétanque.
Is DofE good for CV?
You can learn lots of new skills, improve your fitness and take part in expeditions and adventure activities. A DofE Award also looks good on your CV and can be useful when applying for educational courses and jobs.
How many hours volunteer for bronze DofE?
How long does the Voluntary Service section take? At Bronze level = 1 hour each week (or 4 hours every 28 days) over 3 months/13 weeks (note that Bronze participants are required to do an additional three months in one of the following activities: Skills, Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation.
Do universities look at DofE?
In your personal statement, saying that you have completed your DofE demonstrates commitment and motivation to succeed, which universities will look at, especially as at times it can be challenging and completing your DofE demonstrates you can cope and thrive.

Can an expedition assessor assess a bronze level team?
Yes, if the Supervisor has been involved in the team’s training, then they can still assess the team (as long as they are accredited by the DofE and registered with the LO). The advice on the independence of an Expedition Assessor at Bronze level will be updated in the programme resources soon. What standard do participants need to be trained to?
Can I use indoor accommodation on a bronze expedition?
As with campsites, the use of facilities such as games rooms, bars or swimming pools at any accommodation cannot be used as they are not in keeping with DofE expeditions. If groups decide to use basic indoor accommodation on their Bronze expedition, do they still need to carry a tent?
Do I need to do a presentation for my bronze-level qualifying expedition?
That’s correct. Participants who have already completed their Bronze-level qualifying expedition will no longer need to do a presentation. When eDofE has been updated, their expedition section end date will be the final day of their expedition.
Is there an upper heat limit for DofE expeditions?
We don’t set an upper heat limit as some DofE expeditions are completed in very hot environments around the world such as deserts and jungles, and it would be difficult to set a ‘limit’.
