What is the point of a Pinlock visor?
A Pinlock insert creates a sealed chamber of air between itself and the inside of your shield. This pocket of air insulates your shield against the differential between the colder outside temperature and the warmer microclimate that you’ve created inside your helmet.
How do you remove a Pinlock visor?
Installing and removing the Pinlock® lens
- Remove the visor from the helmet as shown in the helmet manufacturers’ instruction.
- Flex the visor as flat as possible and place the Pinlock® lens with the silicone seal facing the visor, between the two pins.
- Remove the protective film from the Pinlock® lens.

Can you use Pinlock at night?

How long do Pinlock inserts last?
Once dry, the Pinlock will do its job again. This having been said, a Pinlock will eventually pack up and, of course, this depends on the mileage you ride, and the conditions in which you ride. If you ride every day, often in cold and wet conditions, you might need to replace the Pinlock after a year or two.
Can Pinlock be reused?
There’s no reason you can’t reuse the pinlock. But if you’ve changed the face shield because it is scratched… what condition is the pinlock in?
Are Pinlock inserts universal?
Pinlock inserts are generally not Universal. They are specific to different helmet manufacturers and also models within those manufacturers’ line-up. The reason for this is that helmet visor sizes vary, and the only way a Pinlock insert will actually work is by being fitted correctly to ensure the seal is air-tight.

The result: as far as fogging prevention goes, Pinlock certainly does the job. I was traveling in temperatures in mid 50’s and the helmet itself fogged so badly with the visor shut that moisture droplets were beading inside, on the bottom edge. Area covered by the Pinlock insert remained clear.

Why does my Pinlock steam up?
If your Pinlock® lens is not in optimal contact with the inside of the visor, moisture can build up between the Pinlock® lens and the visor. To tighten your Pinlock® lens, you can turn the pins on your visor until the indicator (little arrows) on the pins are pointing more inwards.
