Fansubs are just better. From 15 years of experience, official subs are better 90% of the time. The watering down of lines is likely because one translator thought “They said this, but I think it would be cooler if they said that here, and it’s pretty much the same right?” Or just mistranslation.

Fansubs and scanlations are grey areas. Technically, they are illegal because they distribute copyrighted content without permission.
Is crunchyroll a fansub?
I mean Crunchyroll is basically a fansub group that went official. I’ve never seen any issues with their subs, I have no reason to care about individual fansub groups (unless they’re the only available option for a series).
Why are fansubs better than official subs?
