Is a water meter a good idea?
Water meters are ideally suited to households where water usage is low. If you live alone or as a couple then this could be beneficial for you but it’s not always as simple as that. For example, you could have a small number of people in the home but a large garden that needs watering and you take daily baths.
Where is the water meter located in Colorado?
Typically, your water meter is located inside your home in the basement or crawl space, nearest the outside wall facing the street. However, some homes have the water meter in a meter pit outside the home.
Is a water meter cheaper than water rates?
A water meter means you only pay for the water you use. So that could mean significant savings for your household, or bigger bills – which of course you want to avoid at all costs. If you don’t have a water meter, you pay a fixed price for your water. It doesn’t matter how much water you use, your bill won’t change.
Can I refuse water meter?
You have the right to request a meter. This should be free of charge unless changes to your plumbing are required. Your water company should install the meter within three months of your request.
Can I get rid of my water meter?
You cannot remove the water meter from the property, but your water bill will switch back to an unmetered one. If you move out, and someone else moves in, they will be charged based on the meter, and the water they use.

You must not remove it or instruct anyone else to remove it for you under any circumstances. It is a contravention of the Water Act (as stated in section 175 of the Water Industry Act 1991) and can be a criminal offence to interfere with, wilfully damage or remove the meter.
How does Denver Water read meters?
Denver Water uses an automatic meter reading system that uses miniature radio transmitters attached to the water meter. With this process, a few drivers in trucks can read more meters in one day than our previous staff of 33 meter readers.
Where should a water meter be installed?
