Return to your climb up the mountain. Cross the planks and continue clockwise around the level. You can climb the flag pole to its apex to collect a 1-Up Mushroom. Near here is an area you can drop to with the galaxy’s Comet Medal.

You may notice the Comet Medal hanging high above the ramp with the rolling cylinders. To reach the Medal, head to the top of the hill and turn around. You need to find a way to get on top of the rolling cylinders. To do this you may want to climb to the platform above.

What do Comet Medals do?
Comet medals are difficult-to-reach items that unlock Prankster Comets in most galaxies. (For those galaxies that don’t have Prankster Comets, it appears that they are only used for getting a “Galaxy Complete” crown.) Every galaxy has a comet medal.
How do you get the prankster comets in Super Mario galaxy 1?
The missions can only be done if the player travels to a galaxy with a Prankster Comet in orbit. Prankster Comets only appear in galaxies after a specific Power Star in any given galaxy is collected. Also, when a Prankster Comet is in orbit, the player is forced to choose its level.

There are 49 Comet Medals total, but not every galaxy has a Prankster Comet, even after every Comet Medal has been collected. The counter can temporarily increase up to 50 if a previously-collected Comet Medal is picked up again on a repeat visit to the stage after collecting all the other medals.
