Can males enter the Race for Life?
In 2019, for the first time, the Race for Life opened its doors to men to participate too, making it a truly inclusive event, giving people the chance to come together with their family and friends, and join the movement to help beat cancer.
What year was the first Race for Life?
1994
Cowan to organise and act as race director for the first Race for Life event, which took place in 1994 in Battersea Park, London, where 750 participants raised £48,000. The following year, the race was extended to 6 venues and had 4,500 participants with £210,000 raised.
How long does it take to do the Race for Life?
A Race for Life 5k takes about an hour to complete, and the 10k most people taking part will finish within two hours, but remember – Race for Life events are non-competitive, so you can take as long as you like, there’s absolutely no pressure to finish in a certain time.
What is the aim of Race for Life?
Race for life is a nationwide fundraising event for women only. They walk, jog, or run five kilometres in return for sponsorship to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Can you take dogs on Race for Life?
Race for Life 3k, 5k & 10k participants can take part with their dogs at a wide selection of venues. To confirm whether an event allows dogs, visit the relevant Event venue page on the Race for Life website or call the Race for Life hotline number given at the top of these Rules before entering.
Are dogs allowed at Race for Life?
We allow participants to take part with their dogs at some of our events. You can check this under ‘Facilities’ on your event page. However, we would ask that you be a responsible dog owner when bringing your pet to a the Race for Life event, and make sure you bring water to keep your pet hydrated.
How long should it take to run 5K?
Many runners complete a 5K in 30 to 40 minutes, and many runners are satisfied with their time if it’s around this benchmark. The average walker finishes a 5K in 45 to 60 minutes.
Can you wear headphones during Race for Life?
We know how important this can be to some participants and are happy for you to wear headphones during the event to allow you listen to iPods, MP3 players or similar music systems. However for health and safety reasons you must still be able to hear and be aware of what is happening around you.
Do you have to raise money for Race for Life?
A Very 2020 Race for Life is free! All we ask is that you donate what you can or fundraise on your Giving Page.
Is Race for Life a charity?
Over the past 20 years, more than 8 million people have taken part in the Race for Life, raising over £547 million to fund the charity’s life-saving work. But it doesn’t stop there. Our events are open to everyone: women, men, children, families and friends.
Is Race for Life chip timed?
Will the event be chip timed, how does the chip work, and how will I receive my results? Yes the event will be chip timed. For the full and half marathon event you will receive your chip already attached to the back of your running number – you do not need to do anything.
