How did Monte Sano Mountain get its name?
Monte Sano State Park gets its name from its mountain location overlooking the city of Huntsville, Madison County, in northeast Alabama. Monte Sano is Spanish for “mountain of health,” and the area was so named for its abundant mineral springs and clear air.

Who named Monte Sano?
George Fearn and Robert Fearn, planned a real estate development. The mountain soon became known as Monte Sano, from the Latin words mount for mountain and sanitos for health. Dr. Fearn was probably the one who selected that name.
