What is Regpara used for?
REGPARA® acts on calcium receptors on the parathyroid gland to suppress the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). The drug was approved in Japan for secondary HPT in patients who are undergoing regular dialysis in 2007 and was launched in January 2008.
What is the drug Sensipar used for?
Sensipar® (cinacalcet) is indicated for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis. Sensipar® should not be used in patients with CKD who are not on dialysis because of an increased risk of low calcium levels.
When is the best time to take Sensipar?
Sensipar® is taken once a day in one of the 5 recommended daily doses. Sensipar® tablets should be taken whole.
What are the side effects of the drug Sensipar?
Common side effects of Sensipar include:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- diarrhea,
- loss of appetite,
- muscle pain,
- mild chest pain,
- dizziness, or.
- weakness.
Why does secondary hyperparathyroidism cause hypocalcemia?
Failing kidneys do not convert enough vitamin D to its active form, and they do not adequately excrete phosphate. When this happens, insoluble calcium phosphate forms in the body and removes calcium from the circulation. Both processes lead to hypocalcemia and hence secondary hyperparathyroidism.
Does Sensipar lower blood pressure?
Low blood pressure: Blood pressure may occasionally drop when taking cinacalcet. Be alert for any lightheadedness, dizziness, or a faster-than-normal heart rate.
Is Sensipar a calcium blocker?
All clinical trials concluded that cinacalcet is effective for the reduction of parathyroid hormone, serum calcium, phosphorus, and calcium-phosphate product levels.
Who should not take Sensipar?
You should not take Sensipar if you have low levels of calcium in your blood (hypocalcemia). Before you take Sensipar, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, heart failure, a heart rhythm disorder, liver disease, or a history of seizures.
Does Sensipar make you gain weight?
Sensipar side effects muscle pain, tightness, or contraction; a seizure (convulsions); shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling, rapid weight gain; signs of stomach bleeding – bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; or.
Why is vitamin D low in secondary hyperparathyroidism?
The kidney’s ability to control blood calcium levels is reduced. Also, vitamin D is activated in the kidney, so kidney disease reduces the effectiveness of vitamin D.
Does low vitamin D cause secondary hyperparathyroidism?
Deficiency in vitamin D causes secondary hyperparathyroidism, high bone turnover, bone loss, mineralization defects, and hip and other fractures. Less certain consequences include myopathy and falls.
Does cinacalcet cause weight gain?
Cinacalcet does not affect longitudinal growth but increases body weight gain in experimental uraemia.
