What happens if main jet is too big?
Typical Lean Conditions: (A too-large main jet also mimics this symptom.) – The engine runs hot, knocks, pings and overheats. – The engine surges or hunts when cruising at part-throttle. – Popping or spitting through the carb occurs when the throttle is opened.
What size is my carb jet?
Jets are threaded and have a small orifice through their center that varies based on the size of the jet. For example, a jet may be stamped (on its head) with the number 30. This indicates that the jet’s size is 30 mm.
Does main jet affect needle?
Fuel comes through the main jet and into the needle jet. So the main jet does affect the needle, especially as the throttle opening increases. The needle is attached to the slide and slides up and down within the needle jet. The needle is tapered, like a needle, and has a smaller diameter at the bottom than at the top.
What makes more HP carb or fuel injection?
Warren Johnson: Properly tuned, carburetors make more peak power than EFI in a Pro Stock engine. A carb’s pressure differential atomizes the gas a lot better than spraying fuel through an orifice. But EFI has a broader powerband and superior cylinder-to-cylinder fuel distribution.
How do I know if I need a bigger pilot jet?
If your air screw is in further than 1 turn, you need a richer pilot. If your fuel screw is out further than 3 turns, you need a richer pilot. Off idle hesitation or bog. Revving the engine in neutral will result in hanging RPM’s, or RPM’s will slowly drop back to idle RPM.
Are carburetor jets universal?
Yes you can. As long as they are the same style of Keihin jets.
Does the main jet affect idle?
The main jet does not effect the jetting for starting and idling. It plays no part on low RPM or mid RPM jetting either.
