Is Tip Up Town Cancelled for 2021?
According to the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce, the 2021 Tip-Up Town USA has been changed to a weekend in February due to coronavirus restrictions. The festival, originally scheduled for January 16 and 17, will now be held on February 27 and 28.
Why is it called Tip Up Town?
The festival gets its name from a device used in ice fishing call a “tip up.” The device is attached to a fishing pole, and when a fish is attached, the flag attached to the device “tips up” to let the person fishing know that there is something on their line.
