Michelle Pfeiffer as Pfeminist
July 15, 2008 |
You can't miss the wonderful article by Matt Mazur at his column Suffragette City at PopMatters.com. Matt wrote me yesterday to let us know about this interesting article around Michelle Pfeiffer, Amy Hekerling and I Could Never Be Your Woman as a movie pro-feminism:
Michelle Pfeiffer as Pfeminist [click the image to acess the article]
The article starts here: "When was the last time you saw a film, in the theater with an audience, packed with positive feminist messages on ageism, race, class, sexism, single motherhood, and women in the workplace? It doesn’t generally happen, at least all at once, right?
Now, when was the last time you heard of a female writer-director getting a crack at conceiving and then realizing a project like this? Rarely. Especially when they haven’t had a hit film since 1995.
Before you get too excited, you should know that while Amy Heckerling (of Clueless fame) did, miraculously, get the chance to at least make this daringly subtle, satirical critique of the entertainment industry (and what it is like for a woman working within its constraints) called I Could Never Be Your Woman, the film never got a chance to find a mainstream audience." ... Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman remembered these days
July 12, 2008 |
As the new Batman film, The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan, opens on July 18 in USA, several news-media are refreshing the story of this comic hero along their several versions in TV and cinema.
Among them, of course, the second version (in movies) made by Tim Burton, Batman Returns, is being remembered. Magazines and webs are talking these days about the wonderful perfomance of Michelle Pfeiffer as the unforgettable Catwoman.
For instance, Times Online (UK) says:
"Burton's sequel, Batman Returns (1992), is infinitely more watchable. Danny DeVito delivers a terrific performance as the Penguin. As for Michelle Pfeiffer, dressed in skin-tight rubber, licking Batman's face, and kick-boxing on a sloping roof... we'll let one of the enthusiastic audience members at the first American preview sum it up. “She's hot! She's really hot!” came an over-refreshed cry from the front row, startling the convocation of European journalists. “Aooooow! Man, that chick is hot!” "
On the other hand, even Kate Beckinsale is interesting on Catwoman. The actress has expressed interest in playing Selina Kyle, better known to the comic world as Catwoman and in the next Batman movie which is rumored to include the latex-clad feline. Beckinsale said she wants the role because "... I have a thing for black latex....". She also went on to say that she was a big fan of Pfeiffer and her portral of Catwoman,
"I think Michelle Pfeiffer was such an awesome Catwoman. I’d have to give it some serious consideration.”

Michelle Pfeiffer... too Hollywood-star in Cheri's set?
July 4, 2008 |
Accoring Daily Mail, Cheri has finished officially the filming, besides the site publishes today on the news the behabiour of Michelle Pfeiffer during de filming of the movie in Paris and Cologne:
Cheap, but not so cheerful
"Michelle Pfeiffer's presence on the set of the movie Cheri was a bit too Hollywood for many on the production, directed by Stephen Frears, where filming has just ended. No one fully explained to La Pfeiffer that Cheri was an independent film with a low budget and not a big Hollywood studio picture.
No one would have batted an eyelid about the actress's creature comforts on a big budget film, but on a movie the size of Cheri (tiny!), a euro on location in France had to stretch a long way. There were a few people she liked on set, including leading man Rupert Friend, whom she got on well with, and Keira Knightley, who was visiting her beau on location."
Well, the polemic is here, I don't think Michelle had actually been a difficult actress on set, I think simply —as we all know— she is very shy and reserved, and it can do think that she is rude... I know these small peoductions, and I know when they are smaller, people is more united each other. I think Michelle prefers be apart and it can be understood by the people in the production as unfriendly...
but actually I not idea...

Brittany Snow admires Michelle Pfeiffer
June 30, 2008 |
Brittany Snow, who played the daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer in Hairspray, has just played in Finding Amanda the role of the name of the title. The 22-year-old actress certainly has found the first really great role of her career, as the bubbly young woman who takes up the world's oldest profession (that's prostitution, not entertainment reporting) to maintain her dream home in Las Vegas. Matthew Broderick plays Amanda's uncle Taylor, a television writer with a gambling problem who travels to Vegas to try to "save her" —let's remember Brotherick alongside Pfeiffer in Ladyhawke.
Well, ComingSoon.net spoke to Snow last week and during the interview she was asked about the relationships with members of the family —in the movies— among them like her relationship with Michelle Pfeiffer as her mother in "Hairspray:
How do you prepare to create that kind of family rapport with another character and make it feel real?
Yeah, that's a really good question and that's something that I definitely do consciously. With Michelle, I spent a lot of time studying her, which sounds really creepy, and I told that to her and she was a little freaked out, but also, I think a little honored… no, not honored. Flattered, that's the word. She can't be honored because of me; I'm honored because of her. (laughter) I would watch her in a certain way where I wanted the daughter/mother relationship to be the way she stood, I wanted to stand like that, the way she walked, I wanted to walk like that, just so there was that element of "Wow, this younger daughter is looking up to her mother" and it's an unconscious thing they have and it's connected. I didn't want Michelle to be aware of it, because I didn't think Velma even knew that her daughter was growing up wanting to be her mother so badly, and that happens with a lot of mother-daughters. [...]
Interesting! I really love when other actors talk about Michelle!

A treasure for real Collectors-Pfans
June 26, 2008 |
Some years ago I found on the net a little thumbnail of an old Harper's Bazaar, Italian edition, which featured a "odd" Michelle Pfeiffer on cover, it was the Scarface style, so the date shoulded be from 1983, I thought. So since then I was obsessed on getting that magazine....
And finally I did!!
On the mag, Michelle Pfeiffer was photographed by James Moore to present the Autum—Winter '83-'84 collection of Gianfranco Ferré. The article inside is an interview promoting Grease 2 with interesting facts about the early steps of Michelle in her career.
Tp get the magazine, I was waiting for the right time, and little time ago I found on the net, in the god-of-search Ebay, and then a hard fight of bids, I got it!!
Of course I have to say that I paid a high price for it, but I think it worth it, at least for the true Collector-Pfans, I know he will appreciate it.
On the other hand I have to say that I was able to buy the mag just thanks to the pfans who have been helping this site with their Paypal Donations, so this especial present of PfeifferTheFace is EXCLUSIVELY for all them: the scans in HQ.
The rest of pfans will be able to see it in a small resolution at Photoshoots & Covers Gallery (By James Moore) and the article scans at Press Corner Gallery.
So, since here I'd like to do a new appeal, I keep needing your support for this site can go on growing. Every article, picture or new feature which you are watching (and you will see) has been bought. Please, take your time and read the rest of reasons here.
Thanks a lot for your support! |

Gay marriages already in Hollywood
June 17, 2008 |
Actually it isn't a news around Michelle Pfeiffer, but I just want congratulates to many of you and us:
Hundreds of gay and lesbian couples planed on getting married today on what has been the first full day same-sex weddings are legal throughout California. It was already the time of the present and future in which the land of the cinema, Hollywood, opened the mind...

I know many of us, Michelle Pfeiffer's Pfans, are gays and lesbians... well, it is a great day for all us... and because Hollywood has got a international renown... now let's hope foe the rest of the world.
From here I do one's bit. |

Finally 2009 will be the year for Michelle...
June 17, 2008 |
The truth is that I thought that it were going to be too hasty... but finally it looks like that the launch of the waited Stephen Frears' Cheri will be finally in 2009 and don't for this year, which the movie was announced to be released in December 2008 in USA and UK.
According the Pfamous Nathaniel from Film Experience Blog, who has got the information:
"We waited five long years for Michelle Pfeiffer's wonderfully spirited 2007 comeback (Stardust & Hairspray) but it looks like Miramax and the Weinsteins got a little over optimistic with that proposed December 2008 date for her next Oscar bid, Chéri. I thought that that movie happened awfully fast! Word, direct from the studio to this pfanatic's ear, is that I should stop holding my breath in pfeverish anticipation. It's probably going to be a 2009 movie after all. With or without La Pfeiffer, 2008's Best Actress race is jam-packed with viable contenders."
Sad... but hoped... On the other hand I agree with Dennis in the Pforum, who thinks that it's better, that they take their time to make a great movie, then that they rush and hurry to make it ready for the oscar awards and it's a bad movie. Of course it's sad, that Michelle woun't be in the run for this years oscars and we really was sure, that she could get her first oscar for Chéri, because it's a role that would get attention by the academy. But there are many other awards,Chéri could get. Let's just hope that Chéri will be a great movie, at the critiques and at the box-office. |
